How To Research Keywords

It has been a complex business in the past and one that can be frustrating, but if you know how to research keywords then you can have a big advantage over the competition. Finding them can be a long winded process that can eat away the hours, that was until certain tools started to pop up to make it easy, but do they work?

There are plenty of them, some free and some that you have to pay for, but the trouble with most of them is the amount of useless information they give, sometimes making it even more confusing that doing it all manually.

The Purpose Of Keywords

When it comes to having an online business and your own website it is important to get your content ranking in the search engines, this will give you the exposure that you need for your business to grow. It is not the be all and end all, but it does make a difference and when you find a great keyword combination it can mean a lot of traffic coming your way, and traffic means business.

The idea is to find words or phrases that have a high search volume, meaning that a lot of people are typing those words into the search bars to find information about a topic that those words are relevant to. If it is being searched for a lot, then people want to know about it.

But that is not all, those words or phrases need to have low competition for them to be any good because too much competition and you will have a hard time getting ranked anywhere near the first page, let alone the first position. Low competition means less websites competing for the same phrase, giving you  a better chance to get high in the rankings.

Knowing how much traffic a phrase is likely to give you is also important, there is no point researching and then picking a phrase that is not going to produce any traffic. We all know that an online business needs traffic.

So these are the three main things you need to know about picking the right keyword combinations…

High Search Volume

Low Competition

Traffic Value

Research Tool Options

I have used a few over the years, a couple of free ones in the beginning which I can’t even remember the names of, and a couple that I have paid for and still use today.

I do not recommend using a free tool, the ones I used were misleading and provided different data each time the same phrase was used, it just made life harder and I ended up going back to manually searching using the old Google Adwords Tool.

I have used Market Samurai and did find it adequate, although it was quite a big learning curve involved getting use to it, but there are training video’s to help. There is a lot of data shared and to be honest a lot of it was pointless, thankfully you can turn different columns on or off to show only what you want to show.

I now use Jaaxy Keyword Tool and it is so easy to use that it takes far less time than anything else I have tried and it just gives me the information I need, rather than a lot of useless data that just confuses things.

I can just type in a broad keyword phrase and Jaaxy returns a list of phrases that tells me…

The average number of searches each phrase receives per month

The average visits to your website when you achieve first page rankings

The number of competing websites that use the same keywords

It is so simple, even I can use it, and without any training, although there are  training video’s to show you the ropes. The good thing is though that this is a web based tool, which means you can access it anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection.

Membership Options

There are three options, although one is not going to last you to long, which is the free option.

1. Jaaxy Starter = Free (It gives you 30 searches)

3. Jaaxy Enterprise = $49 per month, $499 per year

Jaaxy Enterprise is for those power users that want to all so see if the .com, .net and .org domains are available, you can see the different features in the grid below.
