Is it possible that all the Inspirational Words of Wisdom that we will find in many books can actually show us the path to success? Is there a pattern that we can find when we look at the successful people that we strive to be like, could reading books really be their connection?
It’s a fascinating concept, but you may be surprised to learn that most of those people that have found success and wealth do a lot of reading and even when they make it, the reading continues, so it may be worth taking note and picking up a book.
The Rich And Successful
When you research it you realize that the people at the top read, and they read a lot, the likes of Warren Buffet, who is worth over $70 Billion, can spend up to eight hours a day reading, he says he spends around 80 percent of his working day reading. Bill Gates also reads a lot, he recommends many books on his personal blog at GatesNotes.com, these are all books he reads and learns from, that has got to say something, right?
I do like learning and I have recently started a course that is teaching the traits of the wealthy and successful people from the past and present, and reading books is a subject that came up because they all read a lot and learn words of wisdom about life, business, health and fulfillment.
There are books about every subject you can think of, and they are all there to teach us something, and if the wealthiest people in the world read them, then they must be doing it for a reason, may be it is to get that little bit smarter.
“Go to bed smarter than you woke up.” – Charlie Munger
Who is Charlie Munger? Only the partner of Warren Buffett, who incidently reads a lot too. Books not only share knowledge, but they can share mistakes and things to avoid, why make the mistakes yourself, when you might have saved yourself time and money by reading a book.
Soak It Up
The knowledge that we can gain from reading books is endless, which is probably why they use them in schools, and colleges, although we now have a choice of the books we read, unlike in school. All the success principles that exist are recorded in books and all we have to do is read them and soak it up.
Obviously we also need to act on what we learn through our reading, but the more we learn the more we tend to change naturally without effort. It’s like we evolve through discovery, and we can discover so much through books.
The course I am going through actually challenges us to read a book a day, something that is linked to Warren Buffett because of the amount he reads. This is said to change us in so many ways that we will see our lives transform over time. It’s a big challenge, and one that will require effort and possibly less TV consumption, but it is something that I am taking note of, and rising to.
Just so you know, reading a book a day does not necessarily mean reading it from cover to cover, but checking out the contents and picking a few chapters that resonate, then putting it down and moving onto another book. It’s a concept I have never contemplated before, but it does make sense because most books are structured around one or two main points, and then filled out with stories or explanations.
Go in get the gold and move on, you can always come back and read other parts of the book another time. Reading more books and getting smarter will take some effort, but it could be effort well spent, and it could end up changing our lives.
Reading more is something that I have committed to, and I hope this post gets you thinking a little about may be doing the same. I would love to hear your thoughts about reading and what kind of books you have read in the past that have helped you and you can recommend to me and others that read this post, just leave your comments below and thanks for reading
