How To Increase Traffic To A Website

Traffic is the life blood of any online business because without it there is simply no business. The question then “how to increase traffic to a website”, is something that any online business owner has at some point asked, because we all want more people visiting our sites, and the more the better.

There are many ways to get more visitors to our sites, but not all are that effective, even paying for traffic can be less effective than the technique I am going to share here today. Before we get to the best technique for getting targeted traffic, I will just go over some of the other methods available ..

Paying For It

Obviously paying for traffic is an easy way to get visitors to our sites, and if done correctly it can be very effective. When we pay for traffic through Pay Per Click (PPC) campaigns using either Google, Bing or Yahoo, then we get almost instant results because once we have a campaign set up and live, our ads are at the top of the search engines for our preferred keywords.

Anyone searching the same keywords that we are targeting will see our ads ahead of any organic results, giving us the upper hand, and of course potentially more visitors. However, before anyone runs off to set up a PPC campaign, let me tell you that it does take a little know how when it comes to using this method of traffic generation. It is always best to make sure that we know how it works and how to effectively use Pay Per Click. If you skip the proper training in pay per click, then you can risk the chance of losing money, it is easy to get things wrong, so think before you jump in.

Social Traffic

There are many social platforms that we can use to help us get more eyes on our content, and although Facebook may be the most popular, they all have their place in helping us get our brand and site exposed online. It is simple to write a short snippet of content and post it on a social platform with a link back to our website, it is free and quick, so in some respects it is a no brainer.

This can produce results, but it is a little hit and miss and even when we get click throughs to our sites using this method, they often are not targeted enough to actually stay and checkout our content. The more people that you can reach on social media, the more your brand and content has a chance of getting noticed, so it is a method to persevere with for the long term.

Although it is free to post content on the many social media platforms, it is possible to use some of them in the same way as you would with Google, Bing and Yahoo, as some do have their own PPC options, and we can promote our sites by advertising on these platforms. Again, just be aware that it is possible to lose money if you do not know how to use them effectively.

Forum Links

Forums can also be effective in bringing our sites a little traffic, but you do have to be careful as most forums are very strict in how links are used, so do not join a forum and start wacking your links all over the place because you will not remain a member very long.

To use this method effectively takes a little time and effort, you need to get involved in discussions and give good quality help and feedback, otherwise you will not gain any respect as it were and people will just ignore your input. In most forums you can add a link to your website in what is called your signature, it will be visible to everyone at the bottom of any post that you submit, so if you answer a question, then it will be right there for everyone to see and of course click through to your site.

If you use a forum properly, then this method can bring you some traffic, but I find that forums are best for finding out what people want to know within your niche. People in forums ask questions, and although you can answer them directly inside the forum, it is a great place to get ideas for posts on your site that you know will help people because if one person has asked a question, then there will be plenty more that have the same question.

Keywords Are Powerful

There is nothing more powerful on the internet than keywords because that is what search engines are built around, that is how they work. Any time we want to find something online we use keywords to find it, and there are millions of them being used everyday.

Pick the right keywords to target and you can get a flood of traffic pouring into your website, pick the wrong ones and you might get the odd visitor popping by, and when we spend a lot of time and effort creating content, the right keywords are paramount.

When we target keywords that have a lot of searches but not a lot of other websites competing for them, then that is when we can hit the jackpot in terms of getting visitors to our websites. But how do we find these highly searched, low competition search terms?

Keyword research is one of the best ways to get traffic because you find great search terms that are being used, yet have little competition, meaning it is easier to rank in the top positions within the search engines, which in turn will give your website a constant supply of new visitors.

Is it free?

There are some free tools out there, but they are not up to the same standard as most professional tools, which of course will cost you a little money. I say a little money because for the amount of traffic they can help you get, which potentially will mean more income, they do work out very inexpensive.

Generating Traffic

All the methods I have mentioned in this post will generate traffic, but by far the most powerful method is using the right keywords and phrases, and that cannot be left to guess work.

Every business needs professional tools to help it become successful and maintain that success, so there is no getting away from the fact that we do have to spend a little money to make money.
